Meet Dr David Logan

Dr David Logan was born and educated in Sydney where he received his Medical Degree through the University of Sydney in 1991.

 

Dr Logan commenced his training as a resident in Newcastle, then as a surgical registrar at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.  He completed his Surgical Fellowship year at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.  He qualified as a Fellow with the Royal Australian College of Surgery in 2001.

 

On his return from Ireland in 2002, Dr Logan was appointment Visiting Medical Officer at the Calvary Mater Newcastle.  He was appointed Chairman of the Department of Surgery for the Calvary Mater Hospital in 2003 – a position he held until 2012.  He was re-appointed Chairman of the Department of Surgery for the Calvary Mater Hospital in 2014.  Dr Logan has weekly operating lists at the Calvary Mater Newcastle for public patients.

 

Dr Logan was appointed Deputy Director of Hunter Breast Screen in Newcastle in 2003 and continues to consult patients of Breast Screen on a fortnightly basis.

 

Dr Logan commenced his Private Practice in 2003 and his private rooms are located near Newcastle Private Hospital in the Specialist Medical Centre off Lookout Road, New Lambton Heights.

 

Dr Logan’s work as a General and Oncological Surgeon allows him to see a wide range of patients.  He has a special interest in cancer surgery including, breast, melanoma, bowel and sarcomas.  He also performs many general surgical procedures such as Hernias, Colonoscopies, Gastroscopies, Gall Bladder and Thyroidectomies.  He is also an accredited member of the Diagnostic Imaging Service and performs ultrasound both in consultations as well as intraoperatively.  His Calvary Mater Hospital appointment has facilitated provision of a consultative service for the Haematology Department including laparoscopic splenectomy, laparoscopic biopsies and insertion of ports for chemotherapy.

 

Apart from his weekly public operating list at the Calvary Mater Hospital, Dr Logan also has weekly private operating lists alternating between Hunter Valley Private Hospital at Shortland and Newcastle Private Hospital at New Lambton Heights.

 

Dr Logan has been committed to staying up to date with the latest techniques and studies.  He regularly attends surgical conferences both locally and internationally.  He has also been appointed as a conjoint lecturer of the University of Newcastle and provides teaching and mentoring to 4th year medical students through clinical attachments.

 

Dr Logan is married to Elizabeth and they have four sons.
